For American Heart Month, we’re hooking you up with the of heart-healthy recipes you need to make. If you need something quick and easy to whip up this weekend, we’ve got the perfect salad for you.

This salad combines lean protein, healthy fats, whole grains, and seasonal produce in a combination that bursting with flavor. It’s packed with omega 3 fatty acids and mono-unsaturated fats, which increase your HDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) and lower your LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol), thus helping to decrease the risk of heart disease.

Heart-healthy salmon salad with honey mustard vinaigrette

What you’ll need:

Greens of choice (romaine, mixed greens, and butter lettuce work well in this salad)

Blood orange




Salmon filets

Cooked quinoa

Sliced avocado

To prepare the salmon:

Brush your salmon with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and rosemary. Drizzle with a little lemon juice.  Broil on high for 10 minutes.

To prepare the honey mustard dressing: 

1/4 cup apple cider vinaigrette

1/4 cup honey

2 tbsp dijon mustard

1/2 cup olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

On a bed of mixed greens and romaine, add chopped blood orange, cucumbers, and olives. Add 1/2 cup cooked quinoa, and your salmon on top. Finally, add some sliced avocado, and dress all in the honey mustard vinaigrette.
