Today, we released a first of its kind integration with Apple Health Records that patients and healthcare providers can use to sync health histories between HealthTap’s secure, cloud-based Health Profile and Apple’s Health app. This makes it easier for practitioners to view and assess a patient’s individualized medical history at the point of care, whether it’s in the clinic or remote via telemedicine technology. The availability of complementary patient information also provides additional data points which improve the accuracy of healthcare guidance and recommendations delivered by HealthTap’s augmented intelligence-powered (AI) system.
“We’ve unlocked the full value of Apple’s Health app by presenting patient data in a contextually relevant way to inform better treatment for consumers. Together with Apple, we’re fulfilling the vision of free, consolidated, consumer health data being used to create higher quality care,” said Sean Mehra, HealthTap’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Apple has created an unprecedented infrastructure for securely sharing medical information. Working with HealthTap, healthcare providers can access this infrastructure to gain better insights into their patients using health history data presented to them within the patient chart during virtual or in-person visits. Greater personalization of a patient’s health profile also allows our doctor-trained AI system to more accurately guide them to the right care.”
Patients and physicians both benefit from HealthTap + Apple Health
With a user’s permission, we integrate data from the Apple Health app to provide more personalized results using the our Dr. A.I.™ technology. Once a user’s health history is integrated with the HealthTap app, the information can be accessed on any device or platform which makes the information more accessible to a wide variety of providers, even those who do not use iOS-powered devices.
Apple’s Health app makes it easier for users to visualize and securely store their health records. Individual users can aggregate their health records from multiple institutions alongside their patient-generated data, creating a more holistic view of their health. When patients have their medical information organized on their iPhone, it can help them better understand their overall health and provide key elements of their medical history when visiting a new doctor in the clinic or remote via telemedicine technology.
We have been empowering Apple users to better manage their own health since 2012 when the company launched its patient navigation app on both the iPhone and iPad. HealthTap has since been featured on the Apple App Store in recognition of our service for consumers and healthcare professionals. In 2015, we were honored to extend our collaboration with Apple by being part of the Apple Watch launch.
Q: What is HealthTap + Apple Health?
A: HealthTap + Apple Health is the integration of Health Records in the Apple Health app into HealthTap. Health information can be uploaded from Apple Health to HealthTap to create an improved, comprehensive view of a user’s medical information.
Q: How does HealthTap work together with Apple Health?
A: Apple Health was built to create an ecosystem of apps that use health record data to better manage medications, enhance nutrition plans, diagnose diseases, and much more. HealthTap has integrated with Apple Health allowing HealthTap users to sync clinical data types (medications, conditions, symptoms, labs, biometrics, and other clinical information). By syncing Health Records from an Apple device to HealthTap’s secure, cloud-based app, users will be able to aggregate their health information from a multitude of medical institutions, clinics, and virtual visits into one place – the HealthTap Health Profile.
Q: How do I use HealthTap + Apple Health?
A: Start a consult in HealthTap. During your consult, you’ll be prompted with the opportunity to “Sync with Apple Health”. Turn on the option, and if you have Health Records in your Apple Health app, the data will be automatically included into HealthTap.
Q: What will the biggest benefit be to patients using both HealthTap and Apple Health?
A: With Health Records from Apple Health, patients will have medical information from participating institutions organized into one view, covering allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures, and vitals. HealthTap’s Dr. A.I. augmented intelligence leverages this data to deliver health assessments, care recommendations, and the opportunity to connect directly and immediately with a physician. Patients have the opportunity to receive more relevant treatment because HealthTap makes it easier for practitioners to view and assess patients’ entire medical history at the point of care. As Apple Health is updated with new Health Records, HealthTap will notify patients that new information is available.
Q: Where can patients access HealthTap + Apple Health?
A: The Apple Health app is available exclusively on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch). Once Health Records are synchronized between an Apple device and HealthTap, users can access their information from any internet enabled device (mobile, tablet, computer) using HealthTap.
Q: What institutions are making their medical records available on HealthTap via Apple Health?
A: Currently, 113 hospitals, health systems, and medical practices have agreed to make their medical records available through Apple Health. Well-known names on this list include Cedars-Sinai, Cleveland Clinic, Dignity Health, Duke Health, Geisinger, Henry Ford Health System, Intermountain Healthcare, Johns Hopkins, Kaiser Permanente, Mount Sinai, Penn Medicine, Scripps Health, Stanford Health Care, UCLA Health, and Yale New Haven Health.

Q: What is Apple Health?
A: The Apple Health app makes it easy to learn about your health and start reaching your goals. It consolidates health data from iPhone, Apple Watch, and third-party apps you already use, so you can view all your progress in one convenient place. The updated Health Records section within the Apple Health App brings together hospitals, clinicals, and the existing Health App to make it easy for patients to see their available medical data from multiple providers whenever they choose. For the first time, patients will be able to share medical records from multiple hospitals with their favorite trusted apps (including HealthTap), helping them improve their overall health.
